A go-to guide for diffusion do’s and dont's

Aromatic Diffusers Essential oils

Essential oils are used in many types of diffusers and, in my opinion, the only way to use scent throughout a room. It is non-aerosal and non-spray compared to manufactured brand inhalants.

For example, Glade's air freshener spray has the warning "Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and inhaling the contents can be harmful or fatal". So if you inhale it, even from a distance, how is it NOT harmful at all? I will leave you, my dear reader, to answer that question. The alternative is so much better!

Even with an expansive list of why to use a diffuser with organic essential oils versus manufactured sprays, I do have a short guidance list on how to use your diffuser:

  • When diffusing around children and pregnant women, use half of the amount of essential oils for half the time and diffuse oils that are safe for them.
  • When diffusing around pets, make sure there is proper ventilation. Do not diffuse essential oils in close proximity to birds. Check this list for essential oils are safe for dogs: https://sitstay.com/blogs/good-dog-blog/essential-oils-for-dogs
  • A diffusion time of 30 minutes with an ultrasonic diffuser (with water) is ideal.
  • A nebulizer (without water) is much more potent, so 15 minutes on will be enough, repeating every 2-3 hours. For a strong germ cleanse, leave the room and set the nebulizer for 30 minutes with a 10 on / 10 off timer, then air out the room.
  • Prior to diffusing in a shared space, make sure you are not bothering the olfactory sensitivity of people around you. Aromatic preferences are personal! If you prefer a specific scent, you can always use Moonchaser's roll-ons or place a few drops of oil on an essential oil bracelet or clay diffuser.

If you have any other questions, as always, I am here to help you relax and rejuvenate!

Best, Polly

Hey Polly! Hope you’re doing well. Is there a specific diffuser you recommend? There’s a lot out there and I’m not sure how to choose. Thanks! Karen
